Natural Church Pews

There is a place in Oregon called Oneonta Gorge that rivals the finest cathedrals. In a cleft in the mountainous Cascades, basalt walls rising 100 feet above, trees growing out of cracks and 50 shades of green moss hugging the sides, you may or may not be able to see the vague impression of a serene woman’s face. It is in any case a sort of grotto to me. There is a log jam of impressive NW size that make for gargantuan, dwarfing church pews. And if you happen to be there around daybreak when the air is clean and cool and if you you have the sense to sit down and listen, you will find it is better than any four walled church.
