Strength Training For Marathons

My friend and I started to train for a marathon last year.  When we began this endeavor we thought all we needed to do was run everyday and keep adding mileage.  Unfortunately, we were going about it all wrong.  After reading a book on no nonsense muscle training, we realized we were leaving out a crucial part of our regimen.  Adding free weights and muscle building exercises would in fact keep our backs and abs strong to carry us a full marathon.  Now we not only run many miles a day, but we strength train at least 3 times a week.  We will definitely be ready to compete in the next marathon.
