It’s a moment in TAG Heuer history that shall live for as long as the brand itself. The location – Le Mans; the man – Steve McQueen; the watch – Monaco, the automatic, blue square-shaped that shook the world of white and round watches. It has been 40 years since that memorable race, and still waves are rippling throughout the industry. To ride the tide of international success and recognition, TAG Heuer has decided to follow up with an item that is worthy of following in such monumental footsteps: it’s called the Monaco LS Chronograph Calibre 12.
This audacious timepiece is a reflection on the first square-shaped automatic chronograph to ever hit the market. It mocked the firm-set rules of the industry, and rode the wrist of the rebel actor into the hearts of millions of adoring fans. The movement, the design and the detail all contribute to the magnificent watch that seems to come from another world altogether.
A basic Dubois Depraz calibre brings the mechanical wonder to life, displaying the passing seconds in a linear date opening that is easily read linearly from the tip of a double red rhodium hand. The dial was inspired by the Monaco 360 Concept Chronograph, and elegantly compliments the polished bridges, the translucent embossed numerals, and the voice and counter-voiced black chronograph dials. A 40.5 mm case keeps the watch waterproof down to a depth of 100 meters, and is constructed of polished or brushed stainless steel in an ergonomic design. A black alligator skin bracelet is finished with a folding clasp, adding a supreme level of classy elegance, whereas the stainless steel strap – equipped with a unique micro-adjustment device – provides a futuristic flair to the avant-garde design. The Monaco LS is an other-worldly masterpiece.
