About Rise Up, Mofos!
Rise Up, Mofos! is a site all about basketball: NBA, NCAA, WNBA, YouTubers, Podcasts, Pro dunkers, maybe even the Suburban Dads League, you name it. If it has to do with basketball and we find it interesting, we’ll likely write about it here.
Rise Up, Mofos! originally started back around 2006 when a few friends went in on Atlanta Hawks season tickets, attended the games, and wrote about the experience. “Rise Up!” was the Hawks’ slogan at the time, but perhaps because they weren’t that good, the Atlanta Falcons (who were much better than the Hawks) wrested the slogan away.
It was too late to change the site name, though. By that time, “Rise Up” had been married to “Mofos”, domain names had been purchased, and a media powerhouse had been unleashed on an unsuspecting fanbase. At the publication’s peak, we were even invited to live-blog a Hawks game.
Unfortunately, as often happens, family commitments, careers, and life responsibilities took priority over posting. The blog faded away, and the posts were lost.
Nearly 20 years later, Rise Up, Mofos! is back.
As mentioned before, this time, we’re expanding beyond the Hawks. The NBA will be the primary focus, but we’ll also touch on college hoops, the G League, YouTube basketball, professional dunkers, and just about anything else that catches our attention in the basketball world.
A Little About Me
My love for basketball started around the age of 12, when my older brother introduced me to the Atlanta Hawks, and in particular, the all-time greatest Hawk, Dominique Wilkins.
Some of my best memories of growing up were of sitting in the room I shared with my brother, listening to Hawks radio announcer John Sterling exclaim, “Dom-in-ique is mag-ni-fique!”, or “on the fly, in the sky, he jams!” Side note: don’t take the radio comment to mean I’m that old. Home games were often blacked out locally unless they were sold out.
I’ve been hooked on basketball ever since. And with the growth of YouTube and podcasts, I spend way too much time consuming basketball content. Eventually, it occurred to me that instead of just consuming content, I should create some of my own.
That’s why I decided to bring Rise Up, Mofos! back. I hope you enjoy!
